Nice thoughts Jan. We joined the Army around the same time, but with over 20 years difference in age I only vaguely remember thinking about whether not not I'd be able to take another persons life if I was asked to do it. At 17 I just was not thinking about existential questions like that. I have thought a lot over the years around how frustrating it must have been for you to be my friend. We were pretty close during that time (besties???) But 18 vs. 35; we were definitely in different places and looking at the world in very different ways. FWIW our relationship was one of those formative ones for me that continues to shape the way I see the world today.
